5 Gorgeous Philly-Area Hikes


The leaves are already hues of orange, red and purple. We all know colder weather is right around the corner but this doesn't have to mean you are cooped up inside. You might want to grab your pumpkin spice latte and some hiking gear for this hike. We have compiled you 5 great areas you can go out and enjoy the outdoors.

1. Rocky Run at Wawa Preserve

It is a great nature walk to take with the kids or your dog. It is a 4-mile hike so be prepared to enjoy some fields, streams and more in your way.

 

2. Upper trails of Wissahickon Valley Park

One of our personal favorite hiker trials when we visit Philadelphia. You will see other hikers, bikers, and more. Some areas may be quite rocky so it is important to have proper shoes. More than 50 miles of rugged trails offer hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians the opportunity to explore the trials.

3.Black Run Preserve

The Black Run Preserve is a 1,300-acre nature preserve is quite an extraordinary environment. If you are looking for a short and easy hike this would be the hike for you. The fall is the perfect season to come out and hike here.   

4. Sourland Mountain Preserve

If you are looking to skip the gym and burn some calories this 4,000-acre preserve is the right trail for you. This is a perfect trail to hike with friends and family. There is plenty of wildlife to see. However, it doesn't provide many scenic views. You can create your own fun with bouldering options at your own risk. 

5. Ridley Creek State Park 

There are a wide variety of paths to walk on, but it can get hilly. This would be a perfect location for bikers, dog walkers, picnickers, fishermen, photographers, and birdwatchers. The creek itself is stunning and changes with the seasons.
